Legendary British actor Tim Curry has died at the age of 80, TMZ reports.

Curry died on Tuesday night. An LAPD representative told PEOPLE that officers responded to a call at a North Hollywood home around 11:20 p.m. and later conducted a death investigation involving a man in his 80s. No foul play is suspected.

Curry appeared in over 200 film, TV and theatre roles during his career. He was best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic _The Rocky Horror Picture Show_, a performance that made him a global icon.

Other standout roles included Wadsworth in Clue, Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, and Dr. Robert Campbell in Congo.

In September 2025 he made a rare public appearance at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles for the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Curry suffered a stroke on July 13, 2012, at age 66. The stroke led to brain surgery, extensive rehabilitation to recover his speech, and facial paralysis.

He spoke about the moment in a 2013 interview with CBS News.

“It was so strange. I was actually having a massage, and the guy who was giving me a massage said, ‘I’m worried about you. I think we should call a doctor.’ I felt fine. I had no symptoms that I was aware of. I wasn’t in pain.”

He said it reminded him of his father: “I thought immediately of my dad. So, I was scared.”

Reflecting on recovery, he added: “That was very weird. I hated not being able to speak.”

Despite the health challenges, Curry continued to take on projects in the years that followed, though he kept a low public profile.

Curry’s portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter cemented his place as one of theatre and film’s most celebrated character actors, admired for his voice, stage presence and ability to transform across genres.
