Devastating floods along the China-Nepal border have killed at least 987 people in Nepal, the country’s disaster authority said on Tuesday, taking the overall death toll past 1,000.

Chinese state media earlier confirmed 16 people were killed in Tibet, bringing the total number of deaths from Wednesday’s disaster to 1,003.

Rescue operations in Nepal entered their seventh day on Tuesday. Authorities said the number of missing persons in Nepal dropped to 3,916, while the number of bodies recovered has increased.

In China, state media reported 546 people are still missing. That brings the combined number of missing persons in both countries to 4,462.

Nepal said 583 foreigners from over 30 countries are among the missing.

China reported 261 foreigners from 23 countries missing.

Indians make up one of the largest groups. New Delhi said 275 Indian citizens and 128 people of Indian origin are missing in Nepal.

Other missing foreigners include 85 US citizens, 62 Ukrainians, 51 Malaysians, 42 Australians, and 33 British citizens, according to Nepal’s tourist board and embassies.

In India, authorities in Uttar Pradesh said they recovered 17 bodies from rivers flowing from Nepal, believed to be flood victims. The bodies are yet to be identified and are not included in the official toll.
