Meta has announced a new billing policy for the WhatsApp Business Platform that will affect companies using WhatsApp to send service and utility messages.

According to Arise News, WhatsApp Business Platform users will begin to pay per message for service and utility communications starting from October 1, 2026.
This means that businesses that send notifications like order updates, appointment reminders, billing alerts, delivery confirmations, and other utility messages will now be charged by Meta for each message sent.
The new policy is part of Meta’s efforts to monetize business communications on WhatsApp. Currently, many businesses use WhatsApp Business to reach customers for free or at very low cost, especially for customer service and transactional updates.
With this change, companies in Nigeria and worldwide who rely on WhatsApp for bulk messaging will have to budget for messaging costs from October.
