The EFCC has detained Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, as part of a probe into alleged money laundering involving N500 billion.

Abdullahi was taken into custody in Abuja on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and is being questioned by investigators. The commission said the probe centres on financial transactions linked to the alleged fraud, and officials are reviewing relevant records.

The arrest comes as the anti-graft agency steps up investigations into senior officials in the power and energy sector. Abdullahi was appointed to lead the Energy Commission by President Bola Tinubu in October 2023.

The development follows the recent conviction of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in a separate N33.8 billion fraud case.
