The Nigerian Air Force has recovered the cockpit voice recorder from the wreckage of its ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, killing all 25 people aboard.

The recovery was disclosed on Friday by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
According to the military, technical teams working alongside the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau confirmed that the recovered cockpit voice recorder was intact.
The Air Force also reported that part of the aircraft’s Flight Data Recorder had been retrieved, although efforts were continuing to locate the remaining component.
Additional wreckage, engine parts and human remains were also recovered during the latest phase of the operation.
The aircraft, identified as NAF 931, crashed in a swampy area around Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area on October 5, 2026.
It was reportedly travelling from Benin City, Edo State, to Lagos on a routine mission when communication with air traffic controllers was lost.
The incident claimed the lives of 20 passengers and five crew members.
Investigators are expected to examine the recovered recording equipment and other aircraft components as part of efforts to establish what led to the disaster.
The Air Force said the recovery operation was still ongoing, with the investigation expected to provide findings that could help improve aviation safety.
