Residents of eight communities in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State are reportedly facing severe restrictions following the activities of armed groups accused of taking control of parts of the area.

The affected communities include Kommodoro, Telejugu, Paskari, Farin-Ruwa, Dinya, Jamaga, Macijin Kirya and Chibi, which are located around the borders connecting Taraba, Plateau and Bauchi states.
A community leader and grassroots mobiliser, Tanko Bobbo, disclosed that residents were living under persistent threats from suspected bandits who allegedly restrict movement, seize farm produce and loot shops.
He also raised concerns that residents were afraid to report attacks to security agencies because of threats of retaliation from the armed groups.
In a separate development, Bobbo disclosed that 10 out of 15 people recently abducted in the area had regained their freedom. However, he did not provide details about how their release was secured.
The security situation reportedly remained tense, with another attack recorded on Thursday morning when a farmer was shot while travelling to his farm between Jebjeb and Kampani, a border community between Taraba and Plateau states.
The report also alleged that the armed groups operate from forest hideouts in neighbouring Plateau State.
The situation highlights the continuing security challenges confronting rural communities, where attacks on residents, farmers and local businesses can disrupt livelihoods and restrict economic activities.
Residents are now seeking stronger security intervention to restore normalcy and prevent further attacks.
