A major political and economic development has emerged from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Akwa Ibom State.

During a rally at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 6, the President announced his approval of the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport project.

The announcement followed a request by Governor Umo Eno, who told the President that Akwa Ibom was prepared to deliver two million votes in the 2027 presidential election if the Federal Government facilitated the development of the seaport.

Responding to the governor’s appeal, Tinubu acknowledged the request before declaring the project approved.

The proposed seaport, which has been part of Akwa Ibom’s development ambitions for decades, is expected to expand maritime activities, attract investments, create employment opportunities and strengthen the state’s position in international trade.

The announcement has therefore become one of the biggest talking points from the President’s visit, particularly because the project has featured in the state’s development conversations across successive administrations.

However, the visit was not limited to infrastructure announcements. Tinubu also addressed political issues, made comments about opposition figures and outlined areas where his administration intends to support the state’s economic development.
