Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken responsibility for the continued presence of cattle on major roads and streets across Abuja.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike expressed regret over the situation and assured residents that the administration remains committed to addressing it.
“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility,” the minister said. He described the menace as “an eyesore” and “a national security issue,” adding that livestock should not be allowed to move freely in the nation’s capital.
Wike said the FCT administration is intensifying infrastructure development across the territory, extending projects beyond the city centre to satellite towns and Area Councils. He also disclosed that the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days from June 8, 2026 to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
The presence of roaming cattle in Abuja has remained a recurring concern for residents, who often cite safety risks and traffic obstruction.
