Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The operation, conducted on Wednesday, October 15, 2026, saw troops of Sector Two advancing through identified terrorist hideouts around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle and overwhelmed them with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.

The troops pursued the fleeing fighters, neutralising several of them in the process. Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and all life-support structures, as well as the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.

The Theatre Command said troops have continued to maintain a strong operational presence in the area, sustaining clearance and domination operations to deny the terrorists freedom of action and enhance security in surrounding communities.

The Command commended the troops for their courage and resilience, urging residents to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements.
