Nigerian troops have repelled a failed terrorist attack on a military position in Kirawa town along the Nigeria-Cameroon border, killing 12 suspected terrorists and recovering weapons, the Army said.

Army spokesperson Sani Uba said the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military facility early Friday but were engaged by troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and allied forces. The attackers retreated toward the Cameroon border area after heavy return fire.

Several attackers escaped with possible gunshot wounds. Weapons and ammunition recovered include AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and a machine gun.

In a separate joint operation, troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the Multinational Joint Task Force neutralized 10 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during a fierce battle along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala axis, also close to the Nigeria-Cameroon border. The operation targeted terrorist hideouts between Rann and Gamboru, with troops recovering anti-aircraft ammunition and other ordnance suspected to have been stolen in an earlier attack on the Cameroon Defense Force.

Director of Defence Media Operations Maj-Gen Markus Kangye said the operation forms part of a broader strategy to dominate the Southern Lake Chad axis and prevent cross-border movement of terrorists. Recovered arms are under forensic examination while search efforts continue for fleeing terrorists.

The Joint Task Force reassured the public of its commitment to sustaining operational pressure on terrorist elements until they are completely neutralised across the theatre.
