The strike, called by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), is over unresolved grievances, including stalled employment agreement negotiations and alleged discrimination against contract workers. Passengers have reported long waits on the runway, with some stranded at Kisumu Airport for hours.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has activated contingency plans to manage the situation, ensuring safety and operational excellence. The Employment and Labour Relations Court has declared the strike illegal, ordering workers to resume duty.
