Personnel from Operation Enduring Peace intervened to rescue an electoral officer facing a hostile crowd during an APC House of Assembly primary in Ganawuri district.

The confrontation began around 5:30 p.m. on May 20 while results of the All Progressives Congress primary were being declared. According to sources, aggrieved persons surrounded the official announcing the outcome, prompting fears of mob action.

Soldiers working with Keystone operatives rushed to the location to de-escalate the situation. The joint team extracted the electoral officer and several delegates, relocating them safely to Riyom town.

To break up the gathering and regain control, security forces discharged three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, security sources said. Order was reestablished soon after the intervention, and activities in Ganawuri have since returned to normal, authorities confirmed.
