The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed reports that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was kidnapped by armed men in Ado-Ekiti, explaining that he was rescued by police officers following an altercation at a restaurant.

The command confirmed on Friday that Sowore sustained injury during the incident and was receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

The clarification followed a message shared on Sowore’s X account alleging that he had been attacked and abducted by armed thugs, leaving his whereabouts unknown.

In the post, Sowore’s camp claimed that the attackers were government-sponsored and accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of providing them with the group’s exact location.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, offered a different account, saying officers were alerted to a confrontation involving the AAC candidate and some individuals at a restaurant in the state capital.

According to Abutu, police operatives responded to the distress call, moved to the scene and successfully rescued Sowore before taking him to the Police Hospital for treatment.

The police spokesperson stressed that the incident was not a kidnapping, contrary to claims circulating on social media.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has directed a discreet investigation to establish what led to the confrontation, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found responsible faces the law.

The command also appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified reports capable of causing panic or heightening tension.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, regardless of political affiliation or social status.
