The Lagos University Teaching Hospital has released five months of withheld salaries to Dr. Babatunde Omotoso following public pressure over the non-payment.

Omotoso, a Senior Medical Officer in LUTH’s Accident and Emergency Department, had his pay stopped from January to May 2026 after he participated in the NARD nationwide strike in November 2025. Hospital management also failed to pay his December 2025 salary, citing the industrial action.
SaharaReporters first reported the case in early May, noting that the delay caused financial hardship and forced the doctor to rely on colleagues while continuing to work without pay. The Nigerian Medical Association condemned the move, calling it victimisation for exercising the right to strike.
Following the report, sources say LUTH management paid Omotoso’s salaries for January through May 2026. December 2025 remains outstanding, but authorities have pledged to settle it as arrears in June.
The development comes amid ongoing disputes between resident doctors and federal health institutions over unpaid allowances and salary arrears tied to the revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure.
