Citing sources within the facility, Sahara Reporters said the items were taken during a raid carried out by senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service. The operation was allegedly led by the Deputy Controller-General of Operations, with officers said to have entered the prison yard with DSS dogs and in bulletproof vests.

Insiders claimed Ayeni was searched and dispossessed of the jewelry during the exercise. Suspended DCP Abba Kyari, also detained at Kuje, was reportedly robbed of about ₦2 million in the same operation.

One source told reporters that the incident had caused tension in the facility, with inmates accusing the officers of intimidation and abuse of power. Ayeni is said to be considering filing an official petition against those involved.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has not issued an official statement on the matter.

Ayeni was remanded in Kuje Prison on May 4 following a 17-count charge by the EFCC over alleged ₦15.6bn fraud. He was granted bail on May 25 but remains in custody pending fulfillment of bail conditions.
