A Lagos Federal High Court has ordered that 19-year-old blogger Nurenorue Surpruchi remain in detention and will rule on his bail request on June 19, 2026. The blogger is answering to allegations of cyberstalking, conspiracy, online harassment and defamation involving UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu.

He appeared before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa and entered a not guilty plea to all four charges filed against him. Prosecutors from the Force CID, Alagbon, claimed Surpruchi and other unidentified persons plotted on April 5, 2026 to circulate false and injurious material about Elumelu using digital platforms.

Following his plea, the prosecution informed the court it had only just been served with the bail motion and needed time to file a reply. Counsel asked that Surpruchi be held in a correctional centre pending the bail hearing and also sought a date for trial.

The matter has again brought attention to how Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act is being enforced, with regulators emphasizing that online content must avoid defamatory or threatening statements, particularly when it concerns high-profile individuals.
