Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has launched new, stricter rules for mobile telecommunications services to enhance quality of service (QoS). The revised key performance indicators cover voice, data, and messaging services, with enforceable standards.

The NCA’s new rules require operators to reduce dropped-call rates to below 1%, ensure 95% of attempted calls are connected, and maintain voice quality above a certain threshold. Data services must meet specific speed requirements, including average download speeds exceeding 1 Mbps on 3G networks. Messaging services must achieve a 98% delivery success rate with delivery times under 5 seconds.
These changes reflect technological advancements, user needs, and national policy objectives. The NCA will closely monitor compliance, and operators failing to meet standards face sanctions. The goal is to address persistent complaints about poor service quality and improve the overall mobile experience in Ghana.
