Four police officers have been detained by the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command for allegedly extorting N53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Dr Musa Aliyu, SAN.

The incident occurred during what the Command described as an illegal stop-and-search operation in Abuja.
According to a statement from the FCT Police Command, the officers were immediately detained after the matter was reported. Investigations have commenced to ascertain the full details of the incident.
Dr Musa Aliyu is the head of ICPC, one of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies responsible for investigating and prosecuting corruption cases.
The FCT Police Command condemned the actions of the officers and reiterated its commitment to professionalism and accountability within the force.
The Command also assured the public that disciplinary actions would be taken against the officers if found guilty, in line with police regulations.
The development has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for an end to extortion and illegal stop-and-search by security operatives.
