The Egbaliganza festival, also known as Lisabi Day, is set to hold its annual week-long celebration in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on March 28, 2026. This vibrant festival honors the 18th-century hero Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, who liberated the Egba people from Oyo Empire oppression.

Lisabi, born in the early 18th century in Itoku, Abeokuta, was a brave warrior who united the Egba people to fight against the oppressive Oyo Empire. His leadership and bravery secured the Egba people’s freedom, making him a revered figure in Egba history.

The Egbaliganza festival celebrates Egba unity, heritage, and valour through traditional rites, fashion, and culture. The festivities feature:

– A procession to the Lisabi Sacred Forest (Igbo Lisabi) in Oba village, led by the Alake of Egbaland, King Dada Adeboye

– Traditional activities like ayo olopon, wrestling, and cultural dances
