The Edo State Police Command has rescued all 13 passengers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Benin-Lagos Expressway, after a multi-day operation involving drones, aerial surveillance, and bush combing.

Police spokesperson ASP Eno Ikoedem said the incident occurred on May 9 at Ogua Community when armed men attacked a Young Shall Grow Motors bus traveling from Akwa Ibom to Lagos. One female passenger sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
Following the abduction, the command launched immediate rescue operations. Five passengers two adults and three children were first rescued and operatives remained on the trail of the kidnappers.
On May 10, police engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel using intelligence-led tactics and technological support, freeing two more victims. The remaining six abducted passengers were later rescued unhurt, bringing the total to 13.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika commended the operatives for their courage and resilience. He said bush combing operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to securing highways.
