The Anambra State government has closed some shops at the Building Materials Market in Ogidi and Electrical Parts Market in Obosi for two weeks due to traders’ failure to open for business on Monday. This action follows a directive by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to reopen markets on Mondays, aiming to restore economic activities and normalcy.

Chief Evarist Uba, Special Adviser to the governor on Markets, led the monitoring exercise and commended traders who opened their shops, particularly at Obosi Electrical Parts Dealers Market, where about 80% of shops were open. The sealed shops will remain closed for two weeks, pending traders’ commitment to opening on Mondays.

Market leaders, including Chike Onunkwo and Jude Nwankwo, expressed support for the government’s stance, citing improved security and the need for collective effort to rebuild the state’s economy.
