Olumide Akpata, former Labour Party governorship candidate in Edo State, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Akpata’s defection was formalized at an event in Benin City, attended by prominent figures like Peter Obi, John Odigie-Oyegun, and Oserheimen Osunbor. Akpata cited Obi’s earlier defection to ADC as a factor in his decision, aiming to contribute to the party’s growth and Nigeria’s transformation.

At the event, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to building a new Nigeria, emphasizing the need for restructuring and shifting from a consumption-driven economy to one focused on production. Odigie-Oyegun noted ADC’s steady growth, while Osunbor accused the ruling party of planning to manipulate the 2027 elections.
