The family of former Minister of Power and Oyo APC 2027 governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the kidnapping of his younger sister and her twin sons in Ibadan. In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, media aide Femi Awogboro said Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, was abducted alongside her 12-year-old twins, Peter and Paul.

The incident occurred around 7:30am in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan South-West LGA. Mrs John-Paul was reportedly driving to drop the boys at school when armed men intercepted her vehicle, shattered the driver’s window and forced her and the twins into another car before speeding off. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen fired shots into the air to disperse residents who gathered at the scene.

Mrs John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She recently retired from service after working at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with the twins while making plans to join her husband, Mr John Paul, who lives in the United States.
The Adelabu family said security agencies were immediately notified and investigations have begun. “We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” Awogboro stated. The family expressed distress over the development but said they remain hopeful the victims will be rescued unharmed.
The family also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could affect ongoing rescue efforts. They urged anyone with useful information to contact the appropriate security authorities.
No ransom demand has been reported yet, and no group has claimed responsibility. The abduction comes weeks after a similar attack in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, where over 40 teachers and students were kidnapped.
