Soldiers from the 12 Brigade carried out a successful ambush on armed suspects moving along the Old Obajana–Jakura–Tajimi route in Lokoja LGA, Kogi State, early Saturday morning. The operation left one insurgent dead and forced the rest to flee, abandoning their weapons and gear.

The encounter happened around 4:50 a.m. on May 10, 2026, near Meyanga and the northern edge of Adankolo Forest. According to security sources, troops had laid in wait based on intelligence and engaged the group when contact was made. The firefight was brief, and the surviving suspects escaped into the bush.

A sweep of the area yielded two AK-47 rifles, six loaded magazines with 145 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally made pistol, a Motorola radio, a motorcycle, and ₦62,900 in cash. Other items recovered included a camouflage bandolier, three mobile phones, and assorted materials. The military says follow-up operations are ongoing to prevent the group from regrouping in the area.
