The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assumed control of the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, after the facility was unsealed by the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The development was announced in a statement by the National Working Committee under the leadership of National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara. National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Haruna Mohammed said both Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in Maitama have been reopened and transferred to Takushara and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, in line with subsisting court directives.
The secretariat had been under lock since November 18, 2025, following violent confrontations between rival groups contesting the party’s leadership. The matter proceeded to the courts, with the Court of Appeal in Abuja ruling on March 9, 2026, to nullify the November 16, 2024 national convention held in Ibadan that installed the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led NWC supported by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed.
According to the statement, the Wike-aligned NWC praised the police for acting professionally and upholding the rule of law, noting that the move reflected regard for constitutional procedure. The party cautioned against any conduct that could obstruct operations or disturb peace at the secretariat, stressing that security agencies had been placed on alert to deal with defaulters. The NWC maintained that internal disputes affecting the party had been resolved and appealed to aggrieved members to close ranks in the interest of unity. It also acknowledged Wike’s role, describing his support as vital during the crisis.
The PDP has grappled with leadership wrangling since the 2023 general elections, with the standoff between the Wike camp and the Turaki/Damagum bloc leading to the shutdown of Wadata Plaza last November. With the complex now accessible, the Takushara-led leadership said administrative work would resume fully after months of inactivity.
