Nigerians used approximately 4.93 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority shows.

The volume is 7.4 percent higher than the 4.59 billion litres logged in the same period of 2025. The figures reflect quantities trucked into the domestic market over the three months.

Daily averages eased as the quarter progressed. Consumption stood at 60.2 million litres per day in January, slipped to 56.9 million litres per day in February, and declined to 47.3 million litres per day in March.

On a monthly basis, January 2026 recorded about 1.866 billion litres, February had 1.593 billion litres, and March totaled 1.466 billion litres. The NMDPRA derived each monthly total by multiplying the daily average by the number of days in that month.

The downward trend from January through March suggests that demand is adjusting to changes in pump prices and supply conditions.
