The US has issued a ‘Do Not Travel’ advisory for 23 states in Nigeria due to worsening security conditions, citing threats of crime, terrorism, kidnapping, and civil unrest. The states include Borno, Jigawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and northern Adamawa, among others. The US Embassy in Abuja has also authorized non-emergency staff and their families to leave due to the deteriorating security situation.

The advisory highlights concerns over terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and violent crimes, particularly in crowded locations like markets, shopping centers, and places of worship. The US government recommends enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for real-time updates and exercising caution while traveling.
