Soldiers of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, under Sector 4 of Operation DELTA SAFE, have intercepted a vehicle carrying suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil in Akwa Ibom State.

The interception happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, 26 July 2026, during an anti-oil bunkering patrol along Onna–Etinan Road.

According to the Army, troops acting on intelligence flagged down an Infiniti Jeep with registration number EPE 937 EY suspected to be used by oil bunkerers. On sighting the soldiers, the driver attempted to escape but later abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.

A search of the jeep led to the discovery of 40 nylon bags containing an estimated 1,200 litres of suspected illegally refined AGO. The product is valued at about ₦2,256,000.

The Army said both the vehicle and the seized product have been secured and would be processed in line with Operation DELTA SAFE directives. The operation was carried out without any casualty.

Operation DELTA SAFE continues to intensify patrols across the Niger Delta to curb oil theft and illegal refining.
