Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered and safely detonated an Improvised Explosive Device planted by terrorists in Zamfara State.

The operation took place on 27 August 2026 along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
Acting on credible information, Sector 2 troops rushed to the location. They located the explosive, cordoned off the area to protect motorists and residents, and called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to safely destroy the IED.
After the disposal, soldiers intensified patrols in the area to block any further movement by terrorist groups.
The successful operation highlights Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s ongoing efforts to protect lives, secure key routes, and disrupt the changing tactics of terror elements across the North West.
The Joint Task Force called on citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious objects or activities to security agencies. Officials noted that prompt tips from the public remain critical in preventing attacks and keeping communities safe.
