Security forces under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 48 residents abducted by gunmen in Magami community, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The rescue happened in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2026, after troops stationed in Sector 2 got an emergency alert.

According to military sources, dozens of armed men on motorcycles stormed the village and herded villagers toward nearby bushes. Some of the attackers waited at the edge of the community with their bikes.
Troops responded immediately and engaged the gunmen in a gun battle. The pressure forced the attackers to drop their captives and retreat into the forest.
All 48 hostages were freed during the operation.
Sadly, one resident was killed in the attack. Two others who sustained bullet wounds were rushed to Kaura Namoda General Hospital for treatment.
After the rescue, soldiers intensified patrols around Magami and adjoining areas to prevent a follow-up attack.
The Joint Task Force North West praised the troops for their swift response and restated its commitment to securing the North West region. Residents were also urged to share credible information with security agencies to help in the ongoing fight against banditry.
