A severe rainstorm hit Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Saturday, March 28, 2026, causing widespread destruction and displacement. The storm blew off roofs, toppled billboards, and damaged electricity supply cables in areas like Aregbe Junction, Oke-Baale, and Sabo Ayetoro.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has sympathized with the affected residents, promising government support through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency. He has directed the Ministry of Works to clear affected roads and prevent further accidents.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency had forecasted normal to above-normal rainfall in the southwest, including Osun State. The governor attributed the increasing occurrence of such natural disasters to climate change, urging residents to adopt preventive strategies like tree planting.

The government has initiated measures to mitigate the impact, including rapid assessment and response, accelerated drainage and flood control intervention, and infrastructure safety audit and enforcement.
