Soldiers deployed under Operation Enduring Peace have brought calm to Mangu Town in Plateau State following a protest by youths over the alleged killing of a herder. The unrest erupted on the morning of June 15, 2026, but security forces intervened quickly to prevent it from escalating.

Security sources said troops responded at about 9:20 a.m. after receiving reports that Hausa youths had taken to the streets in Mangu Local Government Area. The demonstration was sparked by news of the death of Ibrahim Bappa, a herder said to have been killed by youths from another community. Tensions rose further when Bappa’s body was returned to the area from the Central Mosque and identified as a member of the Hausa community.

According to officials, soldiers moved into the affected areas immediately and contained the situation before it could deteriorate into wider violence. Troops have since maintained a heavy presence across Mangu Town to deter reprisal attacks and keep the peace.

Authorities confirmed that preliminary investigations into the killing of Ibrahim Bappa are underway. Normal activities have gradually resumed in the area as security personnel continue to monitor the situation.
