The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to petition the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, over alleged attacks, harassment and killings involving its members in Ebonyi State.

Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen Forum, Austin Nwachukwu, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja.

Nwachukwu said PDP members, supporters and candidates were experiencing intimidation in several states, particularly from incumbent governors, a situation he claimed was making it increasingly difficult for opposition candidates to conduct their campaigns.

He explained that the planned petition was intended to formally bring the reported incidents in Ebonyi to the attention of the police chief and seek urgent intervention to protect party members.

According to him, the document would be submitted to the Inspector-General later on Tuesday.

The latest move follows previous complaints by the PDP State Chairmen Forum over alleged political violence, threats, abductions and restrictions on opposition activities in Ebonyi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an earlier statement, the forum called for an independent investigation into the reported incidents and urged security agencies to ensure the safety of opposition members.

However, the Ebonyi State Police Command had previously dismissed allegations of political bias, maintaining that it remained neutral and responded professionally to security concerns in the state.

The latest petition is expected to further draw attention to concerns over political security and the freedom of opposition parties to participate in electoral activities ahead of the 2027 polls.
