A market raid in Oyo town was carried out by the officials of the Department of Food, Water and Laboratory Services, in Oyo state Nigeria. The Oyo State Government has seized chemically ripened fruits, including 12 baskets of mangoes.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, warned residents to be cautious about the sources of their food, stating that chemically ripened fruits pose serious health risks, including cancer and other long-term complications. The ministry has received increasing reports of sharp practices among food vendors and is working to sensitize market associations on food safety standards.
To identify chemically treated food items, look out for uneven coloring, unnatural green hues, and lack of flies on meats. The government urges residents to avoid suspicious food items and adopt home-based gardening for safe and healthy food.
