ADC CRISIS DEEPENS IN ADAMAWA AS FACTION ANNOUNCES ATIKU, BABACHIR LAWAL SUSPENSIONS.

A dispute within the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State escalated Monday, April 13, 2026, after a faction said it had suspended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former SGF Babachir David Lawal from the party.

Mohammed Suleiman Raji Zumo, who heads the faction, told reporters in Yola that the decision followed recommendations from the group’s disciplinary committee. He did not outline the reasons behind the move. Sadiq Dasin, named state chairman by the Babachir Lawal-backed camp, was also listed among those suspended, along with other unnamed members.

Adamawa ADC is split between at least three groups. One aligns with Babachir Lawal and former governor Jibrilla Bindow, a second is associated with Senator Aisha Binani, and a third is led by Shehu Yohanna, who maintains he is the legitimate state chairman.

Last week, an Adamawa High Court halted the party’s ward, LGA, and state congresses while it hears Yohanna’s case challenging the process. The Lawal-aligned group went ahead with congresses and announced Dasin as chairman.

The ADC national leadership has not reacted to the suspension claims. INEC recently said it would pause recognition of ADC leadership nationally until pending court cases are resolved.

The standoff leaves the party’s structure in Adamawa unsettled as groups continue to assert control ahead of the 2027 polls.
