The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Osun State, Adebayo Adewale, has withdrawn from the race and declared support for the incumbent, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a video making the rounds online, Adewale, announced his decision ahead of Saturday’s August 15, 2026 governorship election. He said he is stepping down from the race and throwing his weight behind Governor Adeleke.

The move comes just 48 hours to the election and adds to the momentum for the incumbent governor who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.

INEC has cleared 14 political parties for the Osun governorship election. With PVC collection hitting 1.9 million representing 81.5% of registered voters, the race has been described as one of the most keenly watched off-cycle polls this year.

The withdrawal of an APM candidate and his endorsement of Adeleke is expected to further shift dynamics in the final stretch of campaigns.
