A political procession organised by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Asaba, Delta State, has turned violent, leaving one person dead and five others injured.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday along Nnebisi Road during a campaign procession organised by members of the Obidient/OK Movement in support of the party’s presidential candidate.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it had commenced an investigation to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the command had received intelligence suggesting a possible breakdown of security ahead of the procession.
According to the police, the organisers were subsequently invited to a security meeting before the event.
The NDC, however, alleged that armed individuals attacked its supporters with dangerous weapons, including knives and machetes. The party also claimed that several campaign vehicles were vandalised during the incident.
Following the attack, the party called on the Delta State Government and relevant security agencies to investigate the incident, arrest the perpetrators and ensure that political activities are conducted without intimidation.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of political supporters as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
