The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has prohibited graduation events for pupils in Nursery, Kindergarten, and other non-final classes across public and private schools.

The directive is contained in circular PRVS 426/5 dated 18 June 2026. It was sent to all school administrators through Zonal Education Officers and signed by Bisiriyu A.A., Director of Education (Private Schools), for the Permanent Secretary. The Ministry said the move builds on an earlier order and is intended to reduce financial burden on parents and guardians.

Under the new rule, graduation ceremonies will be restricted to Primary 6, JSS 3, and SSS 3 students only, described as learners completing key stages of formal education. Even for these exit classes, schools must keep events modest and must not impose any cost on students, parents, or guardians.

The circular also outlaws elaborate practices during such ceremonies. It specifically bars the use of canopies, Aso Ebi, custom-made outfits, or other forms of expensive social displays. Schools were told to focus on academic recognition and character development instead of costly celebrations that add to family expenses.

All proprietors and administrators were directed to circulate the order widely and ensure full compliance. The Ministry warned that any school found violating the rules will face sanctions under existing regulations for school operations in Ogun State.

This follows a previous circular in which the state ordered all schools to stop graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties. Officials said they received reports of administrators demanding money from parents under the guise of organizing such events.
