Karimot Odebode, a Nigerian public-interest lawyer and celebrated poet, has been named the recipient of Taiwan’s 29th Global Love of Lives Award. She’s recognized for her tireless advocacy for gender equality and education. Odebode’s work focuses on closing the gender gap and ending school-related gender-based violence, and she’s been invited to Taiwan for formal celebration.

The award comes with a $5,000 donation to her Black Girls’ Dream Initiative. Odebode’s poetry collection, A Woman Has Many Names, has been published in Taiwan, fostering cultural exchange between Nigeria and East Asia.
