The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested two elderly men in Umuahia, Abia State, for allegedly supplying illicit substances to secondary school students.

75-year-old Godwin Obiora was arrested on June 19, 2026, after NDLEA received intel that he was selling opioids from a patent medicine shop on Club Road. A search of the premises uncovered 4.64kg of tramadol and diazepam.

In a separate incident, 84-year-old Godfrey Orji was caught supplying drugs to students at Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia, on June 18, 2026. The students involved are receiving counselling and rehabilitation.

The agency also reported other nationwide operations, including intercepting 9.5kg of ADB-Chminaca, a synthetic cannabinoid, at a Lagos courier company, and recovering 300g of “Loud”, a high-potency cannabis strain, hidden in ladies’ handbags at a logistics firm.
