LOW-COST DELIVERY SERVICE HIGHLIGHTED IN LAGOS.

A health centre in Lagos is charging mothers ₦5,000 for childbirth, according to a report by Punch. The facility offers basic maternity services at a reduced rate compared to typical charges in many private and public hospitals across the state.

The report noted that while some government hospitals have announced free antenatal and delivery services under state relief measures, many expectant mothers still report out-of-pocket payments for childbirth. Costs for delivery in Lagos vary widely, with private hospitals often charging ₦800,000 or more for normal delivery and over ₦1.5 million for caesarean sections.

The Lagos State Government had earlier directed general hospitals and primary health centres to provide free antenatal care and child delivery, including caesarean sections, to ease economic burdens on families. However, experiences differ by facility, with some mothers citing payments for registration, consumables, and delivery fees.

The centre charging ₦5,000 presents an alternative for low-income families seeking affordable maternity care within the state.
