LAGOS LAUNCHES SAFER CAMPUSES INITIATIVE TO CURB GENDER VIOLENCE.

The Lagos State Government has rolled out a comprehensive campus program targeting gender-based violence, with efforts focused on fostering safer academic environments across the state.

The campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development alongside the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, will see advocacy teams, workshops, and support systems deployed in state-owned universities, polytechnics, and colleges.

Key elements include training student ambassadors, setting up anti-GBV clubs, and providing access to counseling and legal aid for survivors. A confidential reporting system is also being set up to encourage disclosures without fear of stigma.

The state said rising incidents of abuse on campuses prompted the drive, adding that learning spaces must be protected zones. Student leaders backed the move, vowing to champion the cause.

The initiative will run in phases, with ongoing tracking to gauge impact and ensure swift action on reported cases.
