The Nigeria Labour Congress confirmed that the veteran unionist passed on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following a sudden health setback during the international meeting. He was taken to a hospital in nearby Annemasse, France, but could not be revived.

NLC described Adeleke as a dedicated workers’ advocate whose life was centred on defending workers’ rights, fairness at work, and social equity. He was also an active member of the Nigeria Civil Service Union and played a major role in negotiating workers’ welfare in Lagos.

In a statement, the Congress said: “With heavy hearts, we announce the exit of Comrade Domingo Adeleke… His commitment to Nigerian workers followed him to the world stage till his last moment.”

NLC officials said they visited the facility where his remains are being kept and have started processes to bring him back home. Colleagues and union members have been sending tributes since the news broke.
