The Lagos State Government has sealed an Access Bank branch in Victoria Island for discharging untreated fecal waste into public drainage channels, causing environmental degradation. The enforcement action followed a whistle-blower report, and officials confirmed the facility’s wastewater treatment system was non-functional.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office carried out the enforcement operation, and samples taken from the site confirmed the environmental breach. The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the property will face sanctions according to existing regulations and legal action is being pursued against those involved, including for allegedly attacking enforcement officers.

The government emphasizes its commitment to enforcing environmental laws and protecting public health, urging corporate organizations to adhere to environmental guidelines. The action demonstrates the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards environmental violators, regardless of status.
