Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has named Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race.

The governor announced the endorsement on Tuesday ahead of the APC primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026. He said the choice followed wide consultations with party leaders and structures across the state.

AbdulRazaq described Seriki as young, pro-people, and a strong mobiliser with deep roots and investments in Kwara. He urged party members to back Seriki for unity and continuity, while noting that other aspirants are still free to contest.

Sixteen aspirants are in the race for the APC ticket. The endorsement has already stirred reactions within the party, with some seeing it as a move to shape the succession battle ahead of 2027.
