The Christian Association of Nigeria in Kwara State has restated its neutral position ahead of the 2027 elections, saying its priority is to see peaceful and credible voting across the state and the country.

The association noted in a Friday statement that it will keep encouraging Christians and the public to participate responsibly in civic life, while providing moral and spiritual direction centered on peace, truth, and justice.
State Chairman Bishop Sunday Adewole said the clarification was issued after reports emerged that some Christian groups and leaders in Kwara had backed specific parties and aspirants.
According to CAN, those endorsements reflect only the personal views of the individuals or groups involved and should not be taken as the association’s official position. “Such views and political alignments are personal opinions and do not represent CAN Kwara State,” the statement said.
The body stressed that it does not align with any political party or candidate and remains non-partisan in all electoral matters. It added that while churches and individuals are free to engage in politics under the constitution, such actions must not be portrayed as CAN’s position unless cleared by its leadership.
The clarification comes as political consultations and grassroots mobilization pick up pace in Kwara and other states ahead of 2027. CAN said it will continue to pray for credible elections and push for issue-based politics that promotes stability.
