Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has accepted an invitation from King Charles III to pay a state visit to the United Kingdom from March 18 to 19, 2026, marking Nigeria’s first such visit in 37 years. This significant diplomatic event is expected to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two nations, with trade worth over £8 billion in the year to October 2025.

The state visit will be hosted at Windsor Castle, where King Charles III and Queen Camilla will receive President Tinubu and his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. This visit is a testament to the growing importance of Nigeria as a partner in Africa, with the UK seeking to expand business opportunities and cooperation in areas like trade, security, and climate action.

The visit is also notable for King Charles’ longstanding ties with Nigeria, having visited the country four times as Prince of Wales and expressing admiration for Nigerian culture, including Pidgin English and Afrobeats music. The King’s Trust International has also launched programs in Nigeria focused on addressing youth unemployment and supporting entrepreneurship.
