Forces under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have reported a string of gains in Kaduna and Zamfara after days of coordinated operations against armed groups.

In Kaduna’s Igabi LGA, Sector 1 troops moved on 18 June 2026 following reports of bandit movement around Kerawa forest. They combed the bush and found three people left behind by retreating attackers: Bilkisu Hayatu, 38; Habibah Sadisu, 30; and her infant son Abdulmutallib Sadisu. The family was moved to Kadage clinic for checks. Investigators said the trio were seized from Kajenjere Tami in Birnin Yero on 17 May and were being transferred to Birnin Gwari when troops cut them off.

Zamfara saw multiple actions by Sector 2. In the early hours of 20 June 2026, troops and sister agencies intercepted fighters targeting Gamdanda in Gummi LGA. Acting on prior intelligence, they staged an ambush at Gummi’s edge and opened fire as the group approached, scattering them. A follow-up search produced rifles, ammunition, eight motorcycles, and food stocks, cutting into the group’s supply line.
Another Sector 2 operation alongside Defence Intelligence Agency operatives led to four arrests in Zamfara. The suspects, believed to be extremists and local informants, were taken into custody with items linked to their activities for further probe. Troops also picked up a man, Muhammad Mamman, whose statements about himself did not match, prompting deeper investigation.
In Maru LGA, Sector 2 troops backed by 1 Brigade fought off an assault by gunmen, causing what appeared to be significant losses based on blood traces left along the retreat path. Three soldiers lost their lives in the clash. Separately in Bakura LGA, troops responded quickly to intelligence on armed men riding motorcycles toward Tudun Barade and Badamma. The patrol pushed them back before they could strike, keeping the villages safe.
