HENRY NWOSU, EX-SUPER EAGLES MIDFIELDER, DIES AT 62.

Former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has passed away at 62 after a brief illness. He was a key player in Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, where he was the youngest member of the squad at just 16 years old. Nwosu was known for his creativity, vision, and technical skill in midfield, making about 60 appearances for Nigeria between 1980 and 1991, scoring eight goals.

Nwosu’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from the Nigerian football community, with former teammates and fans remembering his contributions to the sport. He remained involved in football after retirement, working as a coach and mentor.

Nwosu played for several Nigerian sides, including New Nigeria Bank F.C. and Stationery Stores F.C., and also had stints abroad with ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire and Racing FC Bafoussam of Cameroon. He was awarded the national honour Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) for his contributions to Nigerian football.
