The monarch of Bangha Kingdom in Rivers State’s Khana Local Government Area, King Suanu Baridam, narrowly escaped death after being shot by armed attackers on Sunday. The first-class king was injured in the leg while returning from an engagement in Okwale community.
Sources say the attackers ambushed his vehicle, firing shots when the driver refused to stop. The driver also sustained gunshot wounds. The motive behind the attack is unclear, but it’s believed to be a targeted assassination attempt.

This is the second time King Baridam has faced such an attack. He’s currently receiving treatment in a Port Harcourt hospital.
Khana LGA Chairman Thomas Bariere condemned the assault, stating it’s part of a broader effort to intimidate residents and scare away investors. He assured that security agencies are on the case and will bring perpetrators to justice.
The Youth and Environmental Advocacy Centre also condemned the attack, calling for a thorough investigation and demanding the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to book.
